  2. WCL Going Places: The Topsfield Fair

    The Topsfield Fair has been entertaining families since it began in 1918 as a way to promote interest in agriculture and farming. Let’s join in the fun and explore some of the interesting exhibits this year. There are 300 area artists showcasing fine art, jewelry making, demonstrations on stained glass, canning, and lace making as well as flower arranging and the always popular apple pie contest! We will meet in the parking lot of St. Julia’s Church at 9:30 AM to carpool. There are many options for lunch, and we expect to return by 3 PM.   4. The Weston Friendly Society: Auditions for A Chorus Line

    Weston Friendly Society of the Performing Arts is auditioning roles for A Chorus Line to start their 148th Season! Our Spring show, A Chorus Line, is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theater. The musical is centered on seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. A Chorus Line provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer, as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.     Golden Ball Tavern Museum and WCL members and friends are invited to a joint Open House at the Josiah Smith Tavern (JST, 358 Boston Post Road, Weston) to see the newly-restored tavern, enjoy refreshments and explore the “History Under One Roof” exhibit with Weston Historical Society President Pam Fox. The exhibit tells the story of the JST as a tavern, a home for three generations of the Jones family, and a community building since the early 1950s. Jones objects on display - furniture, paintings, photos, decorative arts, household items, books, toys, documents and memorabilia - help bring the family to life! Immediately following the exhibit, WCL members are invited for "Pizza and Cheer” Reception at the home of one of our Co-Presidents. The Open House / Exhibit is Free and no RSVP is required. The “Pizza and Cheer” Reception is $20 pp for WCL Members and $25 for Non-Members. Please RSVP for the reception at wclweston.org.

    Weston residents may bring their yard waste including grass, leaves, and brush to the Composting Facility (aka Brush Dump) on six Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.: October 15, 22, 29 and November 5, 12, 19. When the Brush Dump is open, large quantities (pick-ups/trailers) of leaves and brush will not be accepted at the Transfer Station off Church Street. Plastic bags not designed for composting must be emptied of their contents as they interfere with the composting process. Compost is available free of charge to Weston residents at the Transfer Station and the Merriam Street site, when available.

    WCL needs your help! We will once again be volunteering as part of our service mission at the The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB, 70 South Bay, Boston) from 9 AM-12 PM. We need 10 volunteers (max) to commit to the 3-hour shift. This is a wonderful opportunity to help others in need and to end hunger together. GBFB brings hope, success and dignity to hungry people across Eastern Massachusetts. There are specific guidelines on volunteering during COVID: link.
