Resident Survey Results

In November of 2013, the National Citizen Survey (NCS)™ was sent out to approximately 1/3 of the households in Weston in order to establish a benchmark of citizen satisfaction with the Town of Weston. The results have been received and the NCS reports are available below.

Community Livability Report
The Community Livability Report measures the desirability of Weston as not only where people do live, but where they want to live. This is because great communities are partnerships of the government, private sector, community-based organizations, and residents.

In order to maintain and improve upon that desirability, the survey establishes a benchmark by capturing residents’ opinions within the 3 pillars of a community:

Survey Demographic
The survey results reveal the opinions of 404 residents of the Town of Weston which were compared to those of over 500 similar municipalities, locally and nationally, in order to provide a baseline of information to measure progress and improvements.

Survey Results
  • Almost all resident respondents rate the quality of life in Weston as “excellent” or “good.”
  • At least 9 in 10 respondents gave “excellent” or “good” ratings to:
    • The overall image or reputation of Weston
    • Their neighborhood as a place to live
    • Weston as a place to raise children
    • The overall appearance of Weston with a particularly high rating towards the natural environment and safety
  • About 9 in 10 residents rated the overall quality of services provided by Weston as “excellent” or “good.”
  • The Town of Weston’s employees received high marks where 9 in 10 respondents rated the overall customer service provided by Town employees as “excellent” or “good.”
  • At least 2/3 gave high ratings to:
    • The value of services for taxes paid
    • Welcoming citizen involvement
    • Confidence in town government
    • Acting in the best interest of Weston
    • Being honest
    • Treating all residents fairly
Comparison Communities

National Recognition for Excellence
Based on resident feedback from the survey, Weston residents reported the highest levels of satisfaction in its natural environment, public safety, and community engagement as compared to other jurisdictions participating in the NCS. Because of this, the Town of Weston received national recognition for excellence with 3 "Voice of the People Awards."

The National Citizen Survey™ is sponsored by the International City/County Management Association in cooperation with the National Research Center, Inc. The questionnaire and survey procedure were designed based on the experience of hundreds of local governments all sizes (excerpted from The NCS Weston, Massachusetts Community Livability Report).
