Recognition of Excellence

The Town of Weston received the “Voice of the People Award” for Excellence in the following three categories:

• Community Engagement
• Natural Environment
• Safety

This national recognition stems from the town-wide survey conducted in November 2013 in which Weston residents reported a higher than average satisfaction within these three categories.

Voice of the People Award

The awards are given by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and National Research Center, Inc. to the communities with the highest rated services voiced on The National Citizen Survey (NCS) and compared to other communities’ survey results. 

Three communities from across the United States that have the highest levels of satisfaction are nominated by the award committee and winners are selected from submitted award applications that tell the story of municipality’s success. Weston submitted video applications, which can be viewed below.

Receiving the Award

Town Manager Donna VanderClock (retired in 2018) received the awards at the ICMA conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on behalf of the town and presented them to the Select Board at its September 22, 2014. Representatives from several departments and Town organizations were in attendance to take part in the special recognition, including members from the:

• Conservation, Fire, Police and Recreation departments
• Conservation Commission
• Land’s Sake, Inc.
• Weston Forest and Trails Association
• Weston League of Women Voters
• Weston Media Center 

About the National Citizen Survey

The NCS is a community assessment tool that reports resident opinions and satisfaction with local government and services based on a scientific and representative sample to inform budgeting, performance measurement, and program planning. Weston’s inaugural participation was to establish a baseline of opinion.
