The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is proposing a Metropolitan Water Tunnel Program, which will consist of roughly 14 miles of deep rock tunnels and surface connections to improve the reliability to the existing Metropolitan Tunnel System in the Metropolitan Boston Area. This project is expected to begin in 2027 and will have several design discussions prior to that. Under the proposal, the new tunnel systems will have a northern and southern tunnel in and around the Metropolitan Boston area. These tunnels are proposed to begin in the Town of Weston.
