Weston Power Choice Aggregation Program

The Town of Weston is developing a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program, called Weston Power Choice. WestonPowerChoiceLogo

Implementing a municipal electricity aggregation program like Weston Power Choice is a regulated process that is overseen by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU). The implementation process can take as long as a year to complete because this is how long it usually takes the DOER and the DPU to approve a Town’s implementation plan for the program. Weston’s program was initiated by the December 3, 2019 Special Town Meeting vote, which authorized the Select Board to pursue CCA.

Additional information on CCA and Weston Power Choice can be found by following the web page links further below.

 Program Summary

Weston Power Choice will allow the Town to purchase electricity supply in bulk for Weston residents and small businesses that are enrolled in Eversource’s Basic Service.  A key feature of the program is the integration of additional renewable energy into the power supply.  Participants will benefit from more choices, a reduction of their carbon footprint, greater price stability, and the potential for lower electricity supply rates (savings cannot be guaranteed).

Participants in Weston Power Choice will remain Eversource customers and will continue to receive one electricity bill from them.  They will also continue to call Eversource if they lose power. The program will only change the supply price and the supplier name on participants’ electricity bills.  The supply price will be locked in for a longer period, typically 2-3 years, compared with every 6 months for Eversource residential and small business customers.

Weston Power Choice is an “opt-out” program as required under Massachusetts law and all Weston Eversource Basic Service customers will be automatically enrolled. Residents who have contracted their own electricity supply independently will not be automatically enrolled but are welcome to join Weston Power Choice at any time
