Conservation Commission

The Town of Weston currently has no openings on the Conservation Commission.  The Commission’s chief responsibility is administering the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act by reviewing work projects proposed to take place within 100-feet of wetlands to ensure the protection of the important benefits wetlands provide. The Commission also acquires and manages open space for the protection of natural resources and the enjoyment of townspeople. The Commission has approximately 2,000 acres in its care.

The Conservation Commission comprises seven residents who are appointed by the Select Board for three-year terms. The responsibilities of a Commissioner include attending two evening meetings a month (currently Tuesday nights), as well as attending Commission site visits, which average about twice a month, to inspect proposed development sites and violations.

When a new member is appointed, they should also attend training sessions to become knowledgeable about wetlands resources and the laws protecting them. The Commission will pay for member education at workshops conducted by the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions.
